I’m still alive! And an official homesteader now… :)

Hello my lovelies!

Yes, it has been a long time. Years, even. But I’m still here! And life has been moving forward, even if I haven’t been talking about it.

I simply have not had time to focus on the blog. I am now running two businesses and we are also on the property, off grid, so my limited time has been spent elsewhere.

Yet, now that spring is almost here, I keep thinking that I want to make it a focus, even if I just post once or twice a month, so that’s my goal.

So today, I’ll update my situation.

I am now living on my property. Yay! Continue reading →

Interior Designing Our Cabin

6-3-2011 003_edited-2

This last year I’ve been pregnant which for me means pretty much worthless.  Now that Firefly has been born, I’m feeling quite much more up to snuff and therefore more proactive.  I’m getting more done around here and also we’ve been putting more thought and focus into our future plans.  Okay, specifically our cabin.

You see, I’ve made a goal.  Remember how I’m working on the side to earn money online?  Well, I had a good month in December.  Good enough, in fact, that I am now seeing that it could quite feasibly be that this time next year we’re building our cabin and making preparations to move.  That’s a thrilling thought but also kinda freaky.  Continue reading →

Multiple Income Streams for the Homesteader – a Summary

Maremma Sheepdogs
Maremma Sheepdogs
Little Rambo (front), Ballerina Girl (back) and Gus & Clara, the Maremma Sheepdogs that protect my parents' livestock.

You know, I realize this title is a little deceptive.  It should really be “for the WANNABE homesteader.”  Though I think non-wannabe homesteaders would also benefit from doing this stuff.  But in any case, now we’ve discussed the things I’m working on. Because really, once you are a homesteader, there’s a myriad of ways to earn your keep.  I’ve heard a lot of people who say it can’t be done Continue reading →

Generating Income from Home Part 1 – Internet Marketing

Generating Income from Home

Generating Income from HomeAlright so the biggest thing I’ve been working on, and working on the most, has been different ways of making income from home using internet marketing.  I started about a year & half ago, trying to figure out how to do this.  It’s hard to differentiate between stuff that actually works and scams that are out there just in order to make a buck off you, the person trying to make a buck!  There is REAL information out there, however.  And the beauty of internet marketing is that it is often residual income – you set it up and let it go and it continues to make money with very little maintenance.  I much prefer this method rather than trying to make money with Swagbucks or online surveys where you make a few dollars per hour.  The beautiful thing about the residual income is that it frees up time, so when we are finally able to move out to the property, we can work at it as we have time and have as much time for homesteading projects as we want to.  And many of those homesteading projects will make money as well!  It’s win-win.  So, here’s what I’ve tried so far.

Establishing Multiple Income Streams for the Homesteader – an Overview

Generating Income from Home

Multiple Income Streams for the HomesteaderLike I said in my previous post, I’ve been feeling this sense of urgency – I want to move to our property! I’m tired of paying landlords, I’m tired of my husband being gone most of the day, I’m tired of having to ask permission to do things in the yard, tired of being limited in space, tired of not having a milk cow… I’m tired of lots and lots of things! Especially in the realization that gardening here is pretty much impossible, which is going to be harder on me as time goes on.

Last trip to the property for the season

Well I took my girls on Thursday and drove out to the property.  Funny thing, we were supposed to be moving to our new house this last weekend but it keeps getting delayed.  Anyway, a good opportunity to take the kids out there one last time.  Ballerina Girl had been harassing me for weeks about going to the property.  The long long drive sure was NOT fun by myself and took about 7.5 hours, shoulda taken 6.  But such is life with young kids 🙂  Mr. Hot Stuff and his brother came out on Saturday.
